The Department of English of the Panampilly College is as old as the college itself. It is the only department whose teachers have had a strong bond of love and affection with every undergraduate student of the college. For the same reason, the teachers of English have always been engaging themselves in a variety of activities – curricular and co-curricular – besides their normal academic work. English being a hard nut to crack the world over, the teachers of English have always taken a very special care to inculcate in the students a strong natural affinity to the language so that they can communicate in the international language effortlessly.
Courses: The department has been engaged in teaching the general English courses since its inception in 1975. After the Restructuring of the Curriculum in the University of Calicut in 1999, the Part I English has been replaced by the Common Courses 1 – 6 which comprises a variety of courses – from Communicative English to a thorough discussion of areas of knowledge of perennial as well as contemporary relevance, another way of teaching English through our world.
Add-ons: The faculty has never lost any opportunity to offer a new course whenever it came its way. An Add-on course in Communication Skills & English was conducted by the department in 2011-12. The course has proved to be highly effective and successful. The teachers of the department are also effectively handling state government sponsored quality enhancement initiatives such as Scholar Support Programme (SSP) and Walk with a Scholar (WWS).
A Language Lab was set up by the department in 2005. It is a cutting edge tool to train the students in the art of communicating in English in the most effective way possible. The state-of-the-art facility is also being used to train students belonging to the marginalized sections of the area.
Library: A very good collection of books in English (approx. 5000) related to language, linguistics, literature and literary studies is proudly maintained by the department in the General Library. The collection is updated and enlarged every year so that when a new programme in English is launched, the students find themselves in the right place for the right thing. The department is also in a state of war readiness to launch a new academic programme in English as soon as possible for which no stone is left unturned.
The department offers B.Com (since 1979) and M.Com courses (since 2005-06). The department always tries to maintain a high standard which is evident from its results and performance of the students in competitive and other examinations. The percentage of result and number of creditable grades obtained in both the courses are excellent.

The Department of Economics was established in 1978 with an undergraduate programme and elevated to a post graduate department in 1999. It has seven permanent faculty members with notable academic track record and research activities and class-leading infrastructure facilities. The department offers BA programme and MA programme in Economics.
The BA Economics programme of the department has a matchless curriculum which makes the programme so different from the BA programmes offered by other colleges and is equipping the students to pursue higher studies at national centres of excellence which stipulates that the aspirants have to undergo sufficient number of courses (papers) in Mathematical Economics.
The BA Economics programme of the department is at par with national level standards and offers four courses (papers) in mathematical methods and one course in Statistical methods keeping in view of the increasing application of mathematical methods in economics at international levels.
The MA programme is offering specialisation in Environmental Economics and Health Economics.
Apart from that, the unparalleled academic environment, offered by the department, where students are exposed to a learning ambience matching to national level standards, is a well accomplished and widely acknowledged academic reality. The Department of Economics is marching towards newer heights in the core areas such as Curriculum (mentioned above), Faculty, and Infrastructure and Library facilities

Department of Physical Education carries the legacy of imparting health, fitness and wellness to all students through various physical education activities which include competitive sports, health, fitness and cognitive programme. Ever since its inception in 1975, the Department has been conducting various intra and extra mural sports events in various magnitude for the college as well as to the community. Department emphasizes and strives for excellence in all spheres of health and sports promotion.
Dept has been taking keen interest for improving sports and games facilities in the campus. Now College has reached new milestone in the sports infrastructure by developing a Sports Complex with Indoor Stadium and a Football Field. Decisions have been taken to improve state of art facilities in most of all games namely basketball, handball, volleyball, netball, lawn tennis and shuttle badminton in the indoor stadium and to become the sports hub of Chalakudy . As part of Choice Based Credit and Semester System, Open course programme in Physical Education was introduced by the Calicut University in 2011-12 and our college opted ‘Physical Fitness, Health and wellness’ offered by the Dept of Physical Education as one of the open course programmes. Students from various Departments have been choosing this course as their Open course.
The subject Political Science was included as one among the key subjects in the Pre-Degree programme since the inception of Panampilly Memorial Government College in 1975. The Departmentwas granted Bachelors programme in Political Science in the year 1999. Graduation in Political Science equips the students for anabundant range of careers like Civil Services,Policy Analysis,Law,International Relations, Market Research etc. The Bachelors programme is perfectly blended with complementary papers in Journalism and Audio Visual Communication which opens up careers in Broadcasting, Public Relations, Advertising, Cinema, Cyber Media Newspapers etc. A political science degree offer not just the knowledge and background needed for these jobs, but a complex set of skills as well.
The Department also offers Masters Programme in Political Science since 2012.
