Department of Hindi
The P. M Government College was started as junior college on June 25, 1975 with two batches of Pre- Degree students in Arts and Commerce groups. Students had the option to choose Hindi as their second language. The college was upgraded in 1979 starting with B.Com. The degree courses in Economics, Mathematics and in Political Science were started in the years 1985, 1998, and in 1999 respectively. Hindi was one of the second languages along with Malayalam for the Degree students. When the CCSS was introduced in the colleges of Kerala, The syllabus of Hindi as second language in Degree level was restructured and the name “Common Course” has been begun to use instead of “Second Language”. Once in three years the curriculum and the content of the courses are restructured and upgraded to make them relevant for the present time.
Language and literature empower the students with knowledge and wisdom which in turn help them to face the challenges of life. Literature broadens their vision and outlook .The effective way of teaching literature ultimately supports students to grow with human values. Various academic activities like Seminars, Assignments, Debates, Group discussions are all organized with an objective to strengthen the overall personality of the student. Library More than 2000 books are well organized and maintained in the general library. The collection of books is upgraded every year with the financial assistance from the government of Kerala. These literary works help students to enhance their communication skill.
The Department of Hindi is in coordination with the rest of departments in the college for all activities in the campus. During this year (2023-24) The Government of Kerala introduced a new initiative named “Hunger Free Campus” which is a program meant for financially weaker students, who can have lunch from college Canteen which is run by Kudumbashree with a maximum price of Rs 10. The balance amount will be paid by the Government. The Day Scholars who travel more than 30 KM to reach the college, or if they belong to BPL category, or if their parents are sick can avail this facility. The faculty member Dr. Leena Samuel is in charge of the program in which 50% students of the college are benefitted.
As per the direction from the University of Calicut the faculty member is involved in workshops organized by the Board of studies (UG) to revise the Curriculum in tune with NEP. The member of Faculty was a member of Board of studies (UG) during last three years (2019-2022)

Ètude etude, a Multi-disciplinary research journal (ISSN2394- 6482) a joint venture of Departments of English, Hindi, Malayalam and IQAC of the college is published from 2014-2018 ( 5 volumes) .
First 4 volumes published as seminar proceedings of the seminars conducted by departments of Malayalam, Hindi and English. Presently ètude is a peer-reviewed research journal with ISSN number 2394- 6482, publishing only original and unpublished research articles. We propose to expand the same in to an Inter disciplinary external reviewed CARE Listed journal in near future.
