Golden Jubilee Lecture series -5
The Department of Economics organized the Fifth Lecture of the Golden Jubilee Lecture Series on 3 February 2026 in the Seminar Hall. The theme of the session was “Geo-Economics, Deglobalization and Global Economic Disorder.” The programme aimed to familiarize students with recent transformations in the global economic system shaped by geopolitical tensions and trade realignments. The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Pradeepkumar B, Professor of Economics, Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam. He explained geo-economics as the use of economic tools such as tariffs, sanctions, and trade policies for strategic and political purposes.

The inauguration of the Economics Association for the academic year 2025-26
The inauguration of the Economics Association for the academic year 2025-26 was conducted on 28-01-2026 at the seminar hall. The programme was conducted with the objective of formally launching the association programmes and encouraging students to actively participate in academic and co-curricular activities of the department.

Golden Jubilee Lecture series -4 “The Price of an Hour: Valuing and Applying the Economics of Time”
As part of the Golden Jubilee Lecture Series commemorating the 50th anniversary of the college, the Department of Economics organized the fourth lecture titled “The Price of an Hour: Valuing and Applying the Economics of Time” on 29 October 2025.

Golden Jubilee Lecture Series – Lecture 3
The programme started at 10AM. 60 students from Economics as well as Commerce Department attended the programme. The class was quiet engaging and useful for the students. Sri. Manoj T Neelakantan was the resource person. He is a certified trainer for SEBI and has earned several capital market certifications from the National Institute of Securities Market. The session ended by 11.30 AM.

Discussion on Union budget 2025-26
Research and Post Graduate Department of Economics, Panampilly Memorial Government College, Chalakudy, organised an analytical discussion on the Union Budget of India 2025–26 on 5th February 2025 at 2.00 pm in the seminar hall of the college. The programme was arranged with the objective of creating awareness and encouraging critical understanding of the major proposals and policy directions of the Union Budget.
The session was led by Dr. Martin Patrick, Chief Economic Analyst, Centre for Public Policy Research, and Visiting Fellow at the Indian Maritime Institute and the Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship. He delivered an insightful and well-structured analysis of the budget, highlighting its key features, priorities, and implications for the Indian economy.

Golden Jubilee Lecture Series – Lecture 1 “RESEARCH: What/ Why/ How”
As part of the Golden Jubilee Lecture Series commemorating the 50th anniversary of the college, the PG & Research Department of Economics has organised a guidance class on research work for postgraduate students of Economics, Commerce and Political Science. The class led by Dr. Antony Jose, Director, Naipunya Centre for Research was intended to assist students in theirresearch work that has to be done as part of their postgraduate curriculum.The expert delivered a comprehensive session giving a clearunderstanding of the purpose of research work that aligns with the students’ interest.
